In the following guide, we’ll be explaining everything there is to know about New World’s newest support weapon called Flail.
The Flail and Shield is a melee-based weapon that scales from the Primary Attribute Strength (90%) and Secondary Attribute Focus (65%). The weapon Flail excels in conditions of close combat and is great for providing support.
Cleric Mastery Tree
The Cleric Mystery Tree focuses on Group support and deals AOE Arcane damage on its enemies. Here is a breakdown of the Active and Passive skills of the Cleric Mastery Tree.
Arcane Smite
Arcane Smite lets you leap forward and strike the ground with an arcane force that deals about 130% weapon damage to enemies who are within a 2.7m radius. It leaves behind an AOE that inflicts impairment for 6 seconds on the targets who enter. The stack of impairment deals 10% weapon damage every second and inflicts 10% weakness.
The upgrades added to Arcane Smites help it lower its cooldown. It also adds Weaken and Life Steal if you have one of the following 3 shields equipped. Round shield increases by 20% weapon damage, Kite shield staggers on hit but decreases damage by 10% weapon damage, and Tower shield grants 30% fortify for 6 seconds.
Arcane Vortex
Arcane Vortex lets you swirl your flail above the target’s head to trigger 4 rapid hits that deal 85% weapon damage to the ones within a 3m radius. Once the attack is over, you can do a follow-up attack of blast energy to enemies within a 3m radius.
This grants 10% empowerment for 5 seconds to all your allies who are within the ability. Upgrading the Arcane Vortex will add Apply Haste to self and Root, as well as empower the ability to heal nearby allies.
Arcane Eruption
Arcane Eruption lets you drag the Flail’s head against the ground for an eruption filled with Arcane energy. It deals 125% weapon damage and on top, adds two stacks of impairment for 6 seconds to the enemies around. You can do a melee follow-up attack to deal 160% weapon damage.
Upgrade your Arcane Eruption to apply a 40% slow to the targets. The final upgrade lets you choose between extending the current de-buff and status effect or adding a heal to consume stacks of impairment.
Better Together
When you’re within 4m of one or more allies, you can cast passive healing to yourself, which will result in them being healed too. It heals 16% of weapon damage every 2 seconds. The ability scaled with the attribute Focus.
Bastion Mastery Tree
The Bastion Mastery Tree focuses on supporting your group with Mitigation, CC, and Life Sharing. Here is a breakdown of the Active and Passive skills of the Bastion Mastery Tree.
Barrage
Barrage lets you sprint 10 meters forward, and if you reactivate it again and use a basic attack at the end of the sprint, you can leap an additional of 6 meters while slamming to the ground. This deals 30% of weapon damage to the enemies nearby. Also, a weapon damage of 80% is inflicted upon landing. The ability is taunt-gem compatible.
You can add upgrades to Barrage for a 30$ fortify on successful hits. This allows the ability to block incoming damage. The other buff depends on which shield you have, for instance, the Round shield increases weapon damage, the Kite shield deals 20% slow, and the Tower shield makes the ability gain Grit.
Trip
Trip lets you latch onto an enemy target to deal 50% weapon damage. This ability also knocks them to the ground. You can upgrade it for a follow-up heavy attack that deals 135% damage, as well as for a de-buff that allows your allies to attack the enemies and remove the DOTs on themselves. There’s also an upgrade that inflicts a 15% rend and fortify to enemies and self, respectively.
Warding Bludgeon
Warding Bludgeon lets you do a spinning leap and swing the flail down at your targets. This deals 100% with weapon damage. You can upgrade it for Stable Impairment which reduces 25% Stamina damage for 0.5 seconds after you activate the block.
If you block hits while the fortify is active, then you’ll inflict a stack of impairment for 6 seconds on the attacker. This deals 10% weapon damage every second, thus weakening them. The base damage is also reduced by 10. Lastly, there’s a buff that increases your allies’ damage while granting you damage absorption.
Human Shield
When you hit a target with an ability and an ally is within a 6m radius of it, a status effect is linked between you and the ally for 5 seconds. When the effect is active, your ally will only deal 50% of incoming damage, while you inherit 35% of what didn’t go to them.
How to Level Flail Weapons?
Leveling of weapons in New World requires you to pull in a large number of mobs and use AOE damage to defeat them. You need to repeat this procedure for the XP train to keep moving. Flail may lack in damage but it makes up with its AOE skills, Cooldowns, and CCs. When you’re leveling up, we recommend you equip Light Armour and a Round Shield with 2:1 STR to FOC Split.
We also recommend spending your skill points in the following order: Arcane Smite, Arcane Vortex, Arcane Eruption, Epic Flail, Weighted Superiority, Crippling Strike, Leader of the Pack, Vital Embrace, Iron Clad Superiority, Spiky Impairment, Deflecting Frailty, Better Together, Flail bird, Vital Embrace, Accelerated Advantage, Vital Suppression, Reductive Superiority, Flail Mary, and lastly, Mitigated Protection.
