With Diablo 4's Vessel of Hatred expansion, Mercenaries bring new strategic options to the game, joining you in battles throughout Nahantu. Each Mercenary offers unique abilities that complement specific playstyles. From damage-dealing specialists to support-focused allies, here's a ranked guide for each Mercenary to help you make the best choice for your journey.
4. Aldkin
Ability: Blasphemous Fate - Aldkin occasionally transforms into a demon for 22 seconds, making you and nearby enemies Vulnerable. When you deal damage, it drains your Resource over three seconds.
Aldkin has one of the most compelling designs, yet his passive ability becomes a significant drawback. While his Flame Surge skill tree can deal considerable early-game damage, it's quickly outpaced in later levels. His demon transformation depletes your Resource, limiting his effectiveness in sustained fights. His Haunt skill tree provides minor debuffs like Daze and Slow, but other Mercenaries offer these utility options plus additional support, making Aldkin the weakest choice overall.
3. Varyana
Ability: Massacre - Varyana increases Movement Speed with every kill, up to a maximum of 20% after 100 kills.
Varyana is ideal for builds that need a Movement Speed boost, particularly helpful in low-mobility builds. Her Cleave skill tree introduces Bleed effects, buffs Attack Speed, and can apply debuffs such as Vulnerable and reduced enemy damage. Alternatively, her Shockwave skill tree offers strong crowd control through knockdowns. However, Varyana's own DPS is limited, and her utility, while solid, isn't quite as versatile as the next two Mercenaries.
2. Subo
Ability: Seeker - Marks nearby enemies and materials on the minimap. Every 20 seconds, Subo marks an enemy, and killing it restores 50% of your Resource and reduces Seeker's cooldown.
Subo provides significant support by marking enemies and materials, making him invaluable in Helltide events or when scouring the map for resources. His Wire Trap skill tree includes crowd-control abilities like Slows and Knockdowns, while his Molotov line increases Damage Over Time (DoT) effects, especially beneficial for Poison or Bleed builds. While Subo's combat abilities are decent, his map-marking Seeker Perk is incredibly useful, putting him near the top of this ranking.
1. Raheir
Ability: Valiance - Negates damage that would have taken 15% of your current health, knocks down nearby enemies, and makes you briefly Unstoppable.
Raheir, the first Mercenary unlocked, is unmatched in utility and support. His Shield Charge skill tree provides excellent defensive and offensive options, including Fortify, Armor buffs, Slows, Taunts, and Stuns. His Ground Slam skill tree offers healing and frequent Taunts. Raheir's abilities protect you during critical moments, making him the most reliable and versatile choice across all content.
Each Mercenary in Diablo 4's Vessel of Hatred expansion has strengths, but Raheir stands out as the top companion. Choose Mercenaries that complement your build to gain valuable Diablo 4 Items, Diablo IV Gold and advantages during your adventure in Nahantu.
