Gets Major Quality of Life Improvements Ahead of Shadow of the Erdtree Expansion

Jun-19-2024 PST Elden Ring
Fans of FromSoftware's hit action RPG Elden Ring have a lot to look forward to in the coming days and weeks. Not only is the much-anticipated Shadow of the Erdtree expansion set to release on June 21, 2024, but the core Elden Ring experience will also be getting a major update packed with quality of life improvements.

Gets Major Quality of Life Improvements Ahead of Shadow of the Erdtree Expansion

Just one day before the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion goes live, Elden Ring will be updated with a variety of enhancements designed to streamline the experience for new and returning players. Perhaps the most significant change is that active summon pools will carry over between games.

"This is a great quality of life feature that veteran Elden Ring players have been asking for," said game analyst Victoria Chen. "Being able to carry over your active summon pool means you don't have to rebuild your co-op ally pool from scratch every time you start a new game. It's a real time saver."

In addition to the carryover of the summon pool, the June 20 Elden Ring update will also introduce five new hairstyle options for players' Tarnished characters. These new hairstyles can be chosen at any time - either during initial character creation or when reworking a Tarnished's appearance later in the game.

"The new hairstyle options are a welcome addition, allowing players to further customize and differentiate their in-game avatars," commented Hidetaka Miyazaki, lead designer for Elden Ring. "We hope to give Tarnished greater personality as they travel through the Lands Between."

Perhaps one of the most anticipated quality-of-life improvements coming with this update is an overhaul of the Elden Ring items management system. Previously, players had to manually sort through their ever-growing inventories, trying to keep track of new items and those they've already found. But the June 20 patch aims to address this pain point.

"The new update will automatically tag all newly acquired items in a player's inventory," explained senior UX designer Aiko Tanaka. "This should make it easier for Tarnished to quickly identify gear, crafting materials, or other items they've recently acquired. It's a small change, but one that will have a big quality-of-life impact."

In addition to these headline features, the Elden Ring update will also address several other player-requested enhancements. These include improvements to the map navigation system, more precise camera controls, and tweaks to the co-op summoning experience.

"FromSoftware has really listened to community feedback since the release of Elden Ring," said games journalist Mark Thompson. "The upcoming update contains a number of thoughtful quality-of-life improvements that both newcomers and seasoned Elden Ring veterans are sure to enjoy."

It's no coincidence that the update comes just one day before the release of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. FromSoftware is clearly aiming to ensure players have the best experience possible as they dive into the new content.

"We wanted to give Elden Ring players a fresh start before diving deeper into the events of Shadow of the Erdtree," said Miyazaki. "These quality-of-life updates will help make the transition into the expansion as seamless as possible."

With the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion set to introduce a ton of new locations to explore, characters to meet, and mysteries to uncover, veteran Elden Ring players will no doubt relish the opportunity to approach the new content in a refined and optimized experience.

"FromSoftware really went out of their way to cater to its player base with this Elden Ring update," added analyst Victoria Chen. "It's great that this demonstrates a commitment to supporting the game long after its initial release. Elden Ring fans are in for a real treat in the coming weeks."

Whether you're a newbie planning to dive into Elden Ring for the first time, or a seasoned Tarnished player eager to take on the challenge of Shadow of the Erdtree, the upcoming quality of life improvements are sure to enhance the overall experience. FromSoftware is clearly doing everything it can to ensure Elden Ring continues to occupy a leading position in the action-RPG genre.
