Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred adds a handful of new currency types to the game. You'll earn Pale Marks as you level up Mercenaries, companions that tag along while you're playing solo. These marks can be exchanged for powerful Legendary gear and Mercenary loot caches, making this currency quite valuable if you're chasing certain Legendary aspects or need to gear up a new character.
The game doesn't explain where Pale Marks come from, but they're easy to earn. In this short guide, we explain how Pale Marks work, how to farm for them, and briefly explain how the bartering shop works.
How To Get Pale Marks
Pale Marks can be obtained by leveling up your Rapport with each Mercenary. Most rank-up rewards include a bundle of Pale Marks, usually in batches of 100-200 coins. You can exchange these coins at Fayira in The Den to purchase Legendary gear and loot caches.
When you reach max Rapport with a given Mercenary, any XP you earn with them will contribute towards a bundle of 200 Pale Marks, giving you a means of earning Pale Marks indefinitely. This applies to all Mercenaries at max Rapport. These marks are also account-bound, perfect for gearing alternate characters.
What To Spend Pale Marks On
You don't have many options for spending your Pale Marks. The only vendor that accepts them is Fayira in The Den. You can exchange Pale Marks for items in Fayira's shop, including Mercenary caches that unlock as you increase your Mercenary Rapport. Each character has two bartering upgrades you can unlock at Rapport 5 and 8.
If you don't see any good items in Fayira's shop, you can also spend Pale Marks to reroll the barter shop. You get one free reroll every day, but subsequent rerolls will cost 50 Pale Marks each.
Items in the shop cost anywhere from 20-50 Pale Marks, with aspect caches worth slightly more on average. Fayira can also sell Ancestral items, albeit this is an uncommon occurrence. The best bang for your buck is any aspect cache. They always drop with five items and have a moderate chance of containing an Ancestral.
By balancing Mercenary Rapport, Pale Marks farming, and using Diablo 4 gold to buy upgrades, you'll enhance your gear progression and be able to acquire rare Diablo 4 items faster. This will help you gear up for tougher bosses like Lord Zir, unlock high-tier loot, and progress through endgame content smoothly.
