Hello everyone, today I bring you a topic of the Diablo 4 Season 5 class tier list. If you are wondering which class to start with this season, this guide should help you. If you haven't played D4 in a while, the Season 4 patch completely revamped items and added a new powerful crafting system to the game, as well as a new end-game mode called "The Pit". Now, the Season 5 patch is expanding further, adding 50 new unique and legendary items, and remastering almost all unique items in the game, making them powerful and competitive with new crafting options. We will also get a new wave-based end-game mode called "The Infernal Hordes". This provides new challenging content to test our builds, as well as new ways to earn rewards.
Due to all the new and remastered unique items, we are seeing an increase in power for most classes. You can expect unique items to play a big role in almost every patch in Season 5. On average, we may see two to four unique items per patch. While we did test the new unique items and the Infernal Hordes on the test server, the developers have since implemented massive class balance changes that we did not test. As a result, this tier list is based primarily on theoretical research into where the balance would fall based on these sweeping changes. We've seen surprises emerge after each season has started so far, so stay tuned for updates on the best builds for Season 5.
Before diving into the tier list, I'll quickly define my grading criteria. This is not about which class has the best single build in the game for a particular activity. My ideal state of game balance for D4 is for each class to have multiple builds that excel in basically all the important aspects of the game: pushing the Abyss and the Infernal Hordes, killing super bosses, and farming end-game content quickly. The more powerful options a class has in these activities, the higher that class will rank. A class with only one good build, even if it's the best build in the game, may not get S tier, because if you don't want to run that build, or you have bad drop luck, then you're out of luck if you play that class.
That being said, I talk about every class and their best build options in this guide, so don't just read the tier list, listen to the explanations as well to see what works for you and what's most important to you. C Tier
Necromancer
The Necromancer has had a significant fall since last season, where it was in S tier right out of the gate. Despite this, the Necromancer will still be good in Season 5. C tier is not bad; it’s just not amazing. In Season 4, basically everyone was starting off with Necromancer, particularly Minion Necro, due to their big buffs. While they remain strong early in the season, they tend to fall behind in the highest content as the season progresses. Minion Necro is still one of the best leveling builds and can perform well in endgame content and bossing but struggles significantly with speed farming due to the class's inherent lack of mobility. New aspects like Creeping Mist and reworked uniques like the Gaves of the Empty Tomb provide some hope for mobility improvements, but they require sacrificing multiple gear slots.
Bone Spirit
Bone Spirit offers ridiculous damage potential and is likely the best bet for Necromancers in taking down tormented bosses and pushing the highest content. Blood builds are also on the rise this season, thanks to several buffs and support with the patch, but it’s unlikely they will compete with Bone Spirit.
B Tier
Druid
The Druid was in B tier last season and, while the class is getting buffs and supporting items, overall, it doesn’t feel like the Druid is coming out ahead of the others. Druids have a few builds that can tackle bosses or push endgame content decently well but won't compete with other classes. The Landslide build is probably the best overall Druid build, with potential for Cataclysm builds thanks to buffs and new items. Druids remain the worst class for leveling 1-50, although this has been improved this season. Lightning Storm looks to be the best 1-50 Druid build now, and factoring in the 1-50 leveling experience, Druid would be in C tier.
A Tier
Sorcerer
Last season, Sorcerer was in C tier, but Season 5 brings tons of buffs to its damage and survivability. Sorcerer now boasts multiple good options for speed farming and pushing hard content. For speed farming, Sorcerer is king with builds like Fireball, Chain Lightning, and potentially a new Lightning Spear build. For pushing content like The Pit and Infernal Hordes, Sorcerer has standout builds that hold their own against top builds from other classes. However, Sorcerer struggles against tormented bosses, not dishing out as much single-target damage as some other classes.
Barbarian
The Barbarian was also in C tier last season but has consistently shown surprising performance in actual gameplay. Despite taking a heavy hit this season with key passives being nerfed and no main stat changes benefiting them, Barbarian remains in A tier. While it’s less likely that Barbarian will reign supreme this season, it’s still possible for someone to find a powerful build combination. Bash Barb and Flay Barb are looking like the best builds, with Flay being excellent for all content and Bash excelling in all but speed farming.
S Tier
Rogue
Rogue, in B tier last season, is in S tier for Season 5. Rogues remain one of the best 1-50 classes with multiple builds for speed leveling to World Tier 4. They have excellent build options for speed farming and pushing hard content. While melee Rogues fall off, ranged Rogues dominate with builds like Barrage, Penetrating Shot, and Rapid Fire. Barrage and Rapid Fire are top builds for bosses, with Penetrating Shot falling off due to weaker single-target damage. There’s even a Barrage build relying on Andariel's Visage that might be the strongest build in the game.
Overall, this covers my tier list for Diablo 4 Season 5. Keep an eye out for updates as the season progresses, as new builds and surprises may emerge. What do you think?
