Patch Overview: Buffs and Changes
One of the most significant changes in this patch is the buff to Ether drops from elite enemies. Exalted and Surging Elites now drop +2 Ether instead of just +1, effectively doubling the Ether you can gather from these encounters. This change is a game-changer for farming strategies, especially during Infernal Hordes events.
Additionally, there’s a new set of collectible wings that you can get just by logging in. Plus, the patch notes clarified that a free cache of legendaries with greater affixes is available after completing the Mother's Gift event. Keep an eye out for this reward!
Infernal Hordes Farming Strategy
The core of this new farming strategy is to maximize the number of elites you encounter and capitalize on the increased Ether drops. Here’s a step-by-step guide:
1. Selecting Your Build
- I'm using the Lightning Spear Sorcerer build. Despite recent nerfs, this build remains the strongest in the game, especially for Infernal Hordes events. The build focuses on quick, efficient elite kills, maximizing Ether gains.
- If you’re interested in trying it out, I’ve linked the build details in the description. It’s still the best option this season, even after the nerfs.
2. Farming the Infernal Hordes
- Start by focusing on events that spawn elites. The key is to “juice” these elites by taking advantage of the new +2 Ether drop.
- As you progress through the waves, aim to gather as much Ether as possible. I’ve already hit wave 9 and collected over 900 Ether without even selecting any Hellborn modifiers.
3. Maximizing Elite Spawns
- Combine the new elite drops with Hellborn modifiers when possible. While Hellborn is still a strong strategy, combining it with the new elite Ether drops can lead to even more significant rewards.
- On my first run after the patch, I was able to achieve over 1,000 Ether by the end, and that’s without any Hellborn modifiers. It’s insane how much you can collect now!
4. Handling RNG
- RNG always plays a role in Diablo 4. While I got unlucky with multiple spires during one run, the Ether drops from elites still made the effort worthwhile. Even with bad RNG, you can still expect a significant amount of Ether per wave.
5. Boss Fights
- The final boss fights, even with a nerfed build, are still manageable. The key is to keep focusing on elites and Ether collection throughout the run.
- In my experience, bosses still die in about five seconds with the Lightning Spear build, so don’t worry too much about the nerfs!
6. Maximizing Rewards
- Once you’ve collected over 1,000 Ether, you can start opening chests for massive rewards. In addition to standard materials, you’ll also get plenty of Stygian Stones and other valuable items.
Mother’s Blessing Event and Cache of Legendaries
The Mother’s Blessing event is supposed to be live now, though there’s a bug delaying its full release. Once it’s up, make sure to complete it for a chance to receive the promised cache of legendaries with greater affixes. During my testing, I received a single item, but there’s a possibility of more rewards once the event is fully functional.
Final Thoughts: Elite Juicing Strategy
This new strategy focused on Elite Ether drops is a game changer for Infernal Hordes farming. By doubling the Elite Ether and combining it with the Hellborn, you can quickly amass a ton of resources and make the most of the event's rewards. I'm still testing how far we can push this strategy, but hitting 1,500 Ether per run seems achievable, and 2,000 Ether might be within reach for those who optimize their runs.
